what we do

Young Amici was founded in 2016 to share Amici Dance Theatre Company’s inclusive methods and ethos to the younger community - the need to share and acknowledge each other's abilities, whether disabled or not.

At the weekly classes, Young Amici, learn contemporary dance technique and improvisation, meet other young dancers and create new work.

It also provides personal mentorship for university students to develop their own choreographic and leadership skills.

Young Amici have performed at venues in London and are regularly being commissioned to create new choreographic work.

Here are just some of the exciting things they've done...

we dance into the forest

In April 2020 Young Amici took their classes online so members could continue dancing through Lockdown. They created a film based on our dance We Dance Into The Forest. Everyone was re-taught the dance online and filmed their own parts, together with some Zoom filming these were edited together to create We Dance (Distanced) Into The Forest.

Thank you to Primo Digital Video Productions for filming and editing and to Kaja Olesinska for sound composition.

u dance

In March 2020 Young Amici were shortlisted as a finalist in the U Dance 2020 London Regional Finals at Trinity Laban.

They presented a shortened version of We Dance into the Forest, originally created in 2019. U Dance provided a great opportunity for our members to participate in various dance workshops and present their work alongside other leading youth companies.

young amici lab

In Lithuania in December 2019 Young Amici delivered a three day intensive lab of inclusive dance, exploring improvisation and a different approach to delivering dance technique. Invited by Kaunas 2022 and supported by Aura Dance Theatre and Korys day centre, the lab culminated with an informal sharing and a discussion open to all.

we dance into the forest

We Dance Into The Forest was originally created as a full length dance piece in 2019 and ppremiered at an art exhibition based on nature at The Art Pavilion Mile End and was also performed in the Lyric Studio as part of the JOY Festival.

Originally commissioned by ArtCatcher, the piece explores shapes and atmospheres inspired by nature.
